Lago Puelo was the first place in which I was truly happy not to have a vacation just outside my Tzimer. It was a true heaven.
Me and alon arrived to this beautiful Israeli- Ranch, out in the middle of no-where in Argentina. During the first few days, I didn't really feel that I had to leave this place- with the beautiful scenery (together with Alon's cooking classes at the evening time) was just enough for me.
The first Picture you see is the view I had from our room, just above my bed.
The next pictures are from outside the ranch, and the last picture with Alon is our regular root for the nearest Supermarket...

After a few days in Buenos Aires, The Mini Hostel team (www.minihostels.com) has decided to start moving around (Daniel was of course all over the place at this point, joining up dozens of hostels, while we were just on the bus (good on you Daniel).

A few words about Minihostels
This is a new business of My brother's and his partners (Ido and Daniel) which is something I am really proud of: It is a network of all kinds of good quality, small and non-commercial hostels around South America. The traveler who buys a minihostels card can get a %10 discount in all the hostels (and more services), gets all the information through the website and book in advance, and - can be sure that the next hostel is a good one. The small- non commercial hostels who are straggling against the giant ones can get more exposure and also make money from selling the cards. In short - it is a good deal for all parties....
The above picture is on the bus, on our way to Mendoza! You can see my brother Liran and his girlfriend Serrana, behind them are 2 more minihostels crew- Ido & Amir, and the additional team members: yours truly and Alon- were sitting in the front of the bus, freezing to death during this ride.

This is the first Sunday in Mendoza, when the team has decided to take a day of, and followed me in my request to trek around. We took a trekking tour with some company, thinking that we are going to see some nice views in the area, and have an easy vacation day. In fact, we found out that we took a climbing-in-the-snow- tour to the mountain, and had a very cloudy day, so we really didn't see any view. An experience...

Apparently, the zoo at Plaza Italya in BA is a very good one. I never imagined... And so, accompanied by my Brazilian friends, whom I met at Lirani's hostel, I went to see some fantastic, colorful animals (but all that after a good dish of Ravioli at the "Poalim" restaurant you can see here).

After the ceremony of dinner was finished, a whole new event has emerged, and things started to warm up. First, Amir and his dad Danni started playing, than- in the 2nd pic you can see ido (after a long session with Amir) played.

בתכלס, הרחובות כ"כ יפים פה איך זה שלא שמתי לב לכך עד כה ?
הבתים, הקשתות, החלונות אפילו הרצפה מעניינת. מתחת לכל הצואה והלכלוך יש אבנים גדולות, חומות עתיקות ויפות. קצת עקומות - זה עדיין הודו.
כל ההצקות הללו, כל הפניות של חדר, סמים, מוסיקה, בגדים - הרי זה כלום, אויר, קליפה שמקלפים
מקיר ישן שחושף את היופי וההוד. המרפסות הגזוזטראות, והנה פתאום כל האנשים נראים נחמדים. הנה 2 ילדים רצים, כנראה אחים. המבוגר תופס את הצעיר בחולצה ושניהם צוחקים בטירוף המשחק. והנה האחות מצטרפת בריצה פעורת פה חשופת שיניים וצחוקה מתגלגל ממנה החוצה, שוטף את הרצפה ומציף גם אותי באושר וחיוך מטופש. הנה עכשיו כולם נראים נחמדים ולאו דווקא גנבים, רמאים וקבצנים כמו שנראו לי עד כה. האם כל היופי הזה היה פה כל הזמן או שפשוט שוטטתי לי לאיזור מגורים?

קומה שלישית. אינספור גגות צבעוניים, צרחי מקדשים ומסגדים מכל עבר. תיירים, ילדים, אמהות עם עוללים יונקים, אבות, אחים ומשפחות, עובדי בניין חרוצים- כולם צופים בכדור הענק שהולך ומאדים, מאדים ושוקע. ככל שהוא מאדים יותר, כך הוא מאפשר לצופים הנלהבים להביט בו עמוק בעיניים- הישר בנשמה - ולחוש

בקומה מעלינו הציפורים שרות שיר אחרון של יום, מתעופפות בלהקות וביחידים. תוכים ירוקים ושלדגים כחלחלים (?). עם הציפורים מתחרים מאות עפיפוני וורנסי - מתגלגלים מתרוצצים שובבים וחצופים (בטח קראתם עליהם ברודף העפיפונים מאפגניסטן השכנה). רוח נעימה פורטת על גופינו הערום למחצה.
קומה מעל ענני נוצה מסמיקים, ומשנים זוהרם בהתאם לזווית של הכדור האדום הענק.
מאחורינו הגנגה זורמת לה בהנאה, מתכוננת לפוג'ה היומית - בה תקבל מתנות פרחים ונרות צפים.
כולם ביחד- השמש, הרוח, הציפורים והעפיפונים, הגנגה הקדושה, הגגות עם המקומיים והתיירים חוברים יחד למגינת שקיעה עוצמתית. לפתע המואזין לוקח על עצמו את ההובלה ופוצח באללה אכבר מוכר, כשמואזינים נוספים עונים לו בקנון. צלצולי פעמונים של הפוג'ה ההינדית מהדהדים מכל עבר והאור דועך לו אט אט כששובל סגול מלטף את השמיים.

Recommendation for a restaurant in Varansi: (close to the main Ghat, between Asi and Chowk St.): Phulwari Restaurant

Arriving to Varansi, I prepared myself for spending my time there alone (and I actually searched for that). However, on my first Varansi- morning I met Zohar, and had such a great time with her, that I realized it was a fair price for my freedom/ loneliness.. I hanged out with Zohar the whole 6-7 days in the city.
The first thing we did is to try to find a nice place to sleep, with a ganga view (I couldn’t give that up after my wonderful room in Rishikesh). We spent the whole first day searching for a place, while getting to know the old city and it’s local hustlers. Poor Zohar drugged along after a hole night without sleep.

The pictures that you see here are from our hotel roof-top. It was a haven from the crowded and narrow and at first threatening streets of Varanasi. The last picture is from our room. We indeed managed to have a ganga-view room, but we had to keep the lattice closed all the time, to protect ourselves from the greedy Monkeys.

the 22 hours jurney from Rishikesh (Hariduar) to Varanasi was not too bad, even though it actually took us about 25 hours. I joined Yaron and Liron on the infamous train, and even though we were sure that it actually went out ok, a day later it turned out that Yaron's camera was stolen...

After finishing Hamta Pass trek (actually at the same day), I traveled in 3 buses to get to Rishikesh: I went on a 10 hours local bus from Manali to Chandigar, than on a 6 hours but to Hariduar, and from there on another local bus to Rishikesh.During my stay there I stayed at Laxmanjula area. Recommended place to sleep: Either the family guesthouse just after Ganga view Cafe, opposite Bombay guesthouse, or the family guesthouse just after the big temple (in Laxmanjula- after crossing the bridge and turning left) on the left hand side (before Ganga view cafe

A very recommended local restaurant: Rajastani Restaurant near the Rishikesh Market (Hariduar Rd., on the right hand side just after the vegetable market).

I went on the wonderful 4 days trek with Ofir, Raya and Nimrod. Horses carried our bags.
The trek begins 15 km from Manali and ends in a village in Spity Valley.
This great trek includes green hills and mountains, beautiful vegitation and flowers, sonwed dessart, waterfalls, rivers etc.

On our last day with the bikes- we went to a near by, but remote, village, where a religious festival occurred. For me- the festival was literally incredible. Dancing monks preformed rituals that they perform every year at the same time- for reasons too complicated to explain here. Basically they tried to expel the evil spirits that lie within each of the presents, the temple, and the entire world, while also celebrating the birthday of one high Lama- a great spiritual leader from the past.
Some danced, some played musical instruments, some got into trans, and much of the time they preformed a play in which different monks dressed in costumes presented characters from the Tibetan mythology.
The village and the temple was crowded with both local devotees and many tourists. The tourists stuck out with their cameras and noise, but to be honest- for me it was a very sincere and amazing occasion, where I had the honor to be able to observe a truly ancient and deep act of belief. I was very excited….
Ofir and Yaron did not feel the same… they were very bored watching the rituals for more than an hour, and decided to come back to Leh the next day. I came back with them, but since it was a 2 days festival, I returned to that same place the next day by a local bus, and actually enjoyed it much more on my own- having the time to myself to think about what I saw and to analyze it, meeting interesting tourists and talking for a long time to 2 monks who explained about the ceremony.

After arriving to Leh, we arranged for 2 motorbikes to go traveling for a few days (Meaning Ofir took me on the bike, and Yaron had a “tustus” of his own). A week on the motorbikes was the initial intention, but we (as well as all the others in that area) we not very fortunate weather-wise… The area hasn’t seen as much rain for the passed 10 years, it was impossible to reach many attractive places or to go trekking. And so, our plans were a bit messed up.
As a result, we ended up taking the bikes for only 3 days. In the first 2 days we went west from Leh, visiting the small villages and local temples. It was a beautiful trip. Many of the pictures from this trip were lost with my camera, which fell off the bike on the 3rd day and couldn’t be found since…

On our second day in Ladak, not yet fully accustomed to the heights, we (from this time onwards by “we” I am referring to Ofir, Yaron and myself) decided to climb to the Shanti Stupa and have a look. Great few hours trip…

In Leh, me and Ofir took a wonderful Ladaki family guesthouse (Woodland guesthouse is its name, if I’m not mistaken. It is located in Changspa area. At the end of the main street you turn left – on the opposite direction to upper Changspa, and the hostel is on the right hand side, just under the Shanti gompa).
There were problems with the water, it’s true, but the room was great, the atmosphere among the guests and with the family was pleasant and inspiring, the garden outside turned to Shanti gompa (a Buddhist Japanese temple) on one side to the snowed caped mountains from the other side

Most important in this guesthouse were the dinners- Every night we enjoyed brilliant Ladaki stile, homemade dinners, in a beautiful Ladaki Kitchen, with very interesting guests from around the world sitting around the table and shearing interesting experiences.

I left Daramsala on a night bus to heading to Manali, meaning to find some people to trek with (for 3 weeks…) to Ladak. I arrived and found the beautiful “Valley view hotel” in Vashisht, where I slept and hanged out with an American girl and a Datch girl whom I met on the way.
On the second evening I met Ofir, and tried to convince him to come with me on that 3 weeks trek, but ended up being convinced to buy a ticket for the bus to Ladak and travel there with him (I have all the excuses- bad weather, high expenses, and basically no patience to continue on searching for the right person to trek with, plus the fact that I immediately recognized that Ofir is a great person to travel with).
The bus was for the next day (I met Ofir at 9pm and got the ticket for the next day at 5:30 am), a 2 days ride with wonderful views, very crowded sits and no proper place during the whole ride where you can pee properly… We spent the nights resting in a camping area, with ready made tents and a good dinner. The camping place is the one you can see on the pictures.

We spent a total of 2 days on our way there, 2 days coming back to Manali, and 10 days in the area of Ladak

After my time in Australia, I flew to Seoul and spent there 3 days, before continuing to India.
Stayed in a very recommended hostel named: Holiday Inn Korea, next to Anguk Subway station.
Some general notes from that experience:
Seoul and south Korean people surprised me in their culture in many ways:
-it is not like the typical Asian culture in the sense that people are quite warm and the physical space between people is very small, much more like Israeli mentality, and not anything like what I imagine in Japan for example.
-men and woman show affection in public, just like in the western world.
-the woman's status is very similar to the Israeli's in the sense that it is developing fast, and woman generally go to work and have their own career, but still are expected to do the house work all alone as well. Men in Korea are not yet adjusted to the new situation, from what I hear (Just like in Israel ain it?).
-the clubbing scene is very strange: Instead of dancing with each other- people dance towards the DJ, as if it was a live music concert. It was really strange for me, and that brings me to the next topic:
- From all the conversations I had, it seems that it is still a very "group thinking" society, and people have a hard time excepting individual way of thinking. They are therefore having a hard time, apparently, to evoke creativity- even when it is needed. However, because people are "going with the flow", imitating instead of inventing, it is very easy (it seamed to me) to be a leader is such a culture if you have your own way of thinking and some confidence attached to that. For (a small) example: when I stopped walking in the street in order to look at this chef preparing his own noodles- I noticed to my surprise that many people stopped after me to look as well and all of a sudden this massive crowd appeared in front of the window. Before I stopped- no one else was looking, and everyone just kept on going.
And last but not least- amazing looking woman out there, and a great fashion sense as well!

As for the food- Very rich food, with an amazing diversity of tastes in every meal, but it was very hard to get a vegi meal. I got a lady in the airport to write to me in the Korean language that I do not eat meat, chicken, fish etc... and I actually got kicked out of many restaurants having shown them that note. However, I did find an excellent vegi restaurant just off Insadongill st., if anyone needs a recommendation- just ask..

Sydney- the beaches

First- let me explain about the last set of pictures, and then I shell reach this one:
I met Ruth on the way from the airport to the hostel, and spent a lot of my time in Sydney with her. On the afternoon of that first day there, the weather turned and the rain stopped. We went on a walk to the lovely neighborhood "Glebe", and later ate dinner at China town (on of my only meals out in Australia). That was the explanation about the set of picts below.

These pictures are from the day after that, when I went on a few km walk along the beaches of Sydney, with an Irish bloke I met on the way there - yet another complete different atmosphere in the same city...
